Orchard & Gardens

Outdoor spaces hold significant importance in Montessori education as they provide valuable opportunities for children’s holistic development. These outdoor environments offer children a chance to connect with nature, engage in physical activity, and explore the world around them.

Goodwater Montessori’s orchard and garden areas are designed to encourage exploration, sensorial experiences, and hands-on learning. Children can observe and interact with natural elements, fostering an appreciation for the environment and a sense of wonder. Outdoor play promotes gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and social interaction, enhancing children’s physical and social development.

Additionally, outdoor spaces provide a peaceful and calming setting where children can find solace, improve focus, and cultivate a sense of tranquility. Overall, incorporating outdoor spaces into Montessori education enriches the learning experience, promotes well-rounded development, and instills a deep connection to the natural world.

Goodwater Montessori families are welcome to use this orchard space year-round, so long as they clean up after themselves and are conscientious of the surrounding structures, plants, and wildlife.

Family Support

Family volunteers play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing the orchard at Goodwater Montessori. By actively engaging in volunteer activities, families contribute to the care and maintenance of the orchard, creating a vibrant learning environment for the students. Family volunteers can assist with tasks such as planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to the natural world. Their involvement allows children to witness the value of collaborative effort and community involvement firsthand.

There is a dedicated parent group that coordinates volunteer efforts at the orchard. If you are interested in volunteering time or materials to help maintain our fabulous outdoor spaces, please contact the school for more information.
