Family Newsletter, Friday, May 3, 2024

Dear Goodwater Families
I hope this note finds you and your family well.

A BIG THANK YOU TO MS. ALICIA, OUR PTO, VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED DECORATE THE FLOAT, VOLUNTEERS WHO WALKED ALONG ON THE PARADE ROUTE, AND ALL THE STUDENTS who participated on the float. The Red Poppy Festival was a big success and the school received 2nd Place for our float.

On April 30, 2024, we had a Prospective Family Tour event from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  We had 15 families attend. I would like to thank the PTO for their assistance with this event. I also want to thank several of our student leaders for their assistance in hosting this event:  Austin Wong, Sophia Wong, Milet Rodriquez, and Marcos Rodriquez. Ms. Kim, Ms, Kristi, Ms. Taryn, Ms. Fatima, and Ms. Nilka hosted the evening as well. Our next event will be May 15th, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Please join us in sharing the Goodwater story with prospective families.

Certificate for Volunteering

This past Sunday our building was struck by lightning and we lost total internet, phone service, badge access for our doors, and twelve wireless access points. The staff has been remarkable at adapting to the challenge as a result of this issue. I want to thank everyone who has provided assistance in getting everything back up and running over these past few days. It is gratifying to work with such staff who always adapt to challenges.

We completed the STAAR assessment season on Friday, May 3rd. Thank all of you for supporting your students during this assessment period. The students did their best and have worked hard all year long to improve. We will receive our scores in mid-June. Once these reports are received we will be reaching out to everyone with information on how to review the scores. We are developing additional support components for the 2024-2025 school year and will be sharing those with you in August.

Have a great weekend.

Kindest Regards
Dr. Bruce

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month of May

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the contributions, achievements, and rich cultural heritage of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. It’s observed annually in May to commemorate the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to honor the completion of the transcontinental railroad, largely built by Chinese immigrants, on May 10, 1869.

Throughout the month, various events and activities are organized to recognize the diverse cultures, traditions, histories, and experiences of AAPI communities. These may include cultural performances, exhibitions, educational programs, discussions, and community gatherings. It’s also a time to raise awareness about the challenges and issues faced by AAPI individuals and to promote inclusivity, diversity, and unity.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month allows people of all backgrounds to learn about and appreciate the significant contributions that AAPI individuals have made and continue to make to the social, cultural, economic, and political fabric of the United States.

Important Returning Student News!

Hello! The returning student registration forms are now DUE. They were emailed out on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Please complete the forms and return them as soon as possible as your student’s spot is not secure for the 2024-2025 school year until I receive the packet. We also have openings in all grade levels and would love it if you could make a referral to a friend, a neighbor or someone you meet at the park, gymnastics or even the grocery store. A referral from a current family is our highest compliment we can receive. If you have any questions regarding the returning registration forms, please contact me at registrar@goodwatermontessori.org. Have a wonderful weekend! ~ KIM
